
Batavia Rallies to End Cutters Win Streak

Batavia N.Y. - Kendall Simmons homered for the second consecutive game but Batavia rallied for a 5-4 win on Sunday evening in the finale of a three-game series in upstate New York. Williamsport (14-28) had its four-game winning streak come to an end while first-place Batavia (25-18) snapped its own four-game losing streak.
Williamsport led 3-0 in the third but Batavia rallied for five runs in the fourth through sixth. Down by a run in the ninth, the Cutters loaded the bases but the league's top closer, Evan Brabrand, struck out Corbin Williams on a fastball for his eighth save.
Juan Aparicio rocked an RBI double in the first inning. The 19-year-old catcher remains the league leader in batting average (.374), slugging (.570) and OPS (1.016).
D.J. Stewart was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Erik Miller (ND) was strong in the opening 3.2 innings. Initially the big lefty allowed no hits before surrendering a pair of infield singles on the last two batters he faced when he made way for reliever Carlos Francisco (L, 0-2). Miller racked up a professional career high six strikeouts.
Michael Hernandez hit a solo home run for the Muckdogs.
The Crosscutters are off Monday and then will continue their road-trip with a three-game series at the Connecticut Tigers beginning Tuesday night with RHP Tsin-Chieh Lin (pronounced "Shin-Chay Lin") scheduled to take the mound.
