Spinners Unable to Hold Lead vs. Yankees

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - After falling the night before 4-1, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, went into the top of the ninth inning trailing the Staten Island Yankees by a score of 3-2.
The Spinners (26-15) got runners to second and third in the frame, but ultimately fell by a final of 3-2 to the Yankees (21-21) when Kervin Suarez popped out to second base to end the game.
Lowell got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning when Dylan Hardy stole second base with Ricardo Cubillan on third base. Hardy advanced to third on an errant throw by Staten Island catcher Jerry Seitz. Cubillan scored on a stolen base of his own - giving the Spinners a 1-0 lead. Hardy made it 2-0 when he scored on a wild pitch.
The Yankees, however, came storming back scoring three runs in the next three frames. The first came when Pat Demarco scored on a double by Juan De Leon, cutting the Spinners lead in half.
Staten Island tied the game up in the next frame when Jacob Sanford reached on a forceout to second base but moved up to second base on an erro by Suarez. Ezequiel Duran came in to scorer on the errant throw, tying the game at two runs apiece.
The Yankees took the lead in the bottom of the eighth when De Leon took the first pitch he saw and punched it to deep right-center and into the bay beyond the fence.
Aldo Ramirez got the start on the hill for the Spinners and pitched well - tossing four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking just three.
On Monday, the Spinners enjoy a day off in New York City before taking on the Brooklyn Cyclones, affiliate of the New York Mets, on Tuesday night in their final doubleheader of the road trip. First pitch in game one is at 6:00 p.m.
