Staten Island Yankees News Release
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-The Staten Island Pizza Rats defeated the Lowell Spinners 4-1 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
Staten Island's pitching led the way as Nick Ernst got the start and gave the Pizza Rats four shutout innings. He allowed just one hit in one of his best outings of the season.
The bullpen was just as good as Alex Mejias came in and threw four shutout innings himself before Aaron McGarity closed the game out. Mejias picked up the win in his first game with Staten Island.
The offense for Staten Island got going in the third inning as Jake Sanford drove in a run on an RBI double. Carlos Narvaez had an RBI single in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.
Staten Island would add important insurance runs in the eighth inning as Evan Alexander scored on a wild pitch after a great at-bat by Pat DeMarco led to a walk. After that, Narvaez drove in his second run of the game on a based loaded walk.
Lowell's only run came in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Joe Davis.
Staten Island hosts Lowell on Sunday afternoon in the final game of this four-game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
