Buffalo Bisons News Release

Bases Merlot-ed was a big hit Saturday night at Coca-Cola field. Over 25 wineries and distilleries lined the field for people to try and buy their wines, beers, and liquors.

Many of the vendors had products available for purchase to interested buyers. The wine trail also consisted of a couple of games for people to play. Bottles of wine could be won via ring toss or a card game.

For many people this was not their first time at the Bases Merlot-ed event. Kristen Suto from Buffalo, NY was back for another year, and enjoyed the beautiful weather and being on the baseball field. One drink that stood out to her was Resurgence Loganberry beer.

"It's light and refreshing for the summer," said Suto.

Yvonne McCray, from Buffalo, NY commented on her enjoyment of the Certo Brothers winery. "It was really good," she said.

This year's event also brought out many first time tasters. Leah Kirnam and Tim Costello from Olean, NY, had never been to Bases Merlot-ed but said they enjoyed the wine tasting.

"It's really interesting. I think it is really fun because there are a lot of different places to try and a lot that are local." Said Kirnam. She also added that Black Squirrel Distillery was one of her favorites because it was nothing like they had ever had before.

"A lot of these are new for me," sad Costello, "I like the variety."

Patrick Hehir, from Grand Island, NY was also new to Bases Merlot-ed and said he enjoyed Hernon Hill and Lockhouse Distillery. Hehir said that he enjoyed the discussion he had with Lockhouse Distillery, and that they took the time to explain the product.

Up until the end of the night, most vendors continued to have lines of people waiting to try their product. The crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves throughout the evening, many couples and friend groups laughing and joking as they sipped different types of wine.

There were also multiple vendors out by the pavilion that were serving food. The 716 Food and Sport food truck and the Hot Off the Press food truck were at the ballpark, as well as a Hawaiian slushy vendor, a fudge vendor and a popcorn vendor.

Hillside Family of Agencies was the beneficiary of this year's event. The organization helps children and families in need, offering scholarship programs, crisis support services, and more. Hillside had many volunteers around the event as well as a table set up to inform people of what the agency is and how someone interested could help.
