Barthmaier Leads Sens to Win

On Sunday night at Metro Bank Park the Senators rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Akron Aeros 9-7. The hero on Sunday evening was Jimmy Barthmaier as he pitched 3.2 innings in relief of Oliver Perez to earn the win and move to 2-3 on the season.

Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Devin Ivany. Akron bounced back with four runs off of starter Oliver Perez in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Thanks to a two-run double by Bill Rhinehart and a two-run home run by Tyler Moore, the Senators came right back with four of their own in the third to reclaim a 5-4 lead. They tacked on four more in the sixth inning with Chris McConnell singling in a run and Archie Gilbert doubling in two more.

Akron scored three runs in the seventh to close the gap to 9-7. Rafael Martin came on with two outs and two on in the eighth and struck out Chun Chen to end the inning. He then pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fifth save on the season.

Barthmaier pitched 3.2 innings striking out four and allowing four hits, but no runs.

Archie Gilbert and Tyler Moore both had two hits for the Senators. The home run by Moore ties him with Bill Rhinehart for the Eastern League lead in home runs.

The Senators improve to an Eastern League best record 55-38 while Akron falls to 49-46 on the season.

The second place Bowie Baysox come to Metro Bank Park on Monday to start a three-game series. The Senators send RH Erik Arnesen to the mound against RH Tim Bascom for Bowie. Game time on Monday night is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:50 p.m.
