Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----Peter Barrows hit a two-run, two-out walk-off home run in the 12th inning Thursday as the Explorers defeated Gary SouthShore 5-3.

Leugim Barroso had a two-out single that setup the game winner for Barrows. With three balls and one strike on the Explorers rightfielder, Barrows drove a James Atkins pitch down the left field line that hit the foul pole. It was Barrow's sixth home run of the season.

Jimmer Kennedy pitched the final three innings in relief to pick up his fourth win of the season without a defeat.

The Explorers had taken a 1-0 lead on a RBI single by Barroso in the third inning only to have Gary SouthShore take a 2-1 lead in sixth inning on a two-run triple by Mike Massaro. The X's came back in seventh to take a 3-2 lead, scoring one run on a RBI single by Anthony Kaskadden and the second run on a throwing error by the RailCats first baseman Christian Vitters.

Explorers relief pitcher Chris Bodishbaugh would commit an error in the eighth inning that allowed Gary to tie the game at 3-3. The contest would remain tied until the 12th inning two-run game winning home run by Barrows.

The final game of the four-game series will be played Friday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time 7:05pm.
