Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Sioux Falls Canaries three-game wining streak came to an end on Thursday night in an 8-3 loss to the Kansas City T-Bones before 8,805 fans at Community America Ballpark.
Kansas City (17-29) took an early lead on Kyle Nichols' two-run home run in the first inning. Nichols, a veteran hitter, was made his Kansas City season debut after being signed earlier in the day. Nichols finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and every Kansas City batter tallied at least one hit.
J.P. Ramirez singled home Cory Morales in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Kansas City rallied for three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth. Ramirez led all Canaries hitters, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Canaries starter Adam Champion (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing five runs and five hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out four.
Kansas City starter Shaun Garceau (2-6) muted a previously red-hot Canaries offense by limiting the Birds to three runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed eight hits while walking three and fanning two in his first home victory.
Stephen King had a solo home run, his first of the year in the seventh inning, and Ramirez knocked in another run, but the Canaries came no closer. The T-Bones bullpen retired the final seven Canaries hitters.
The Canaries (16-30) can still clinch the four-game series with a victory in tomorrow night's series finale at 7:05 p.m.. Veteran right-hander Kyle Ruwe (4-5, 4.43) will start for Sioux Falls. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN and kwsn.com.
