St. Paul Saints News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - With the St. Paul Saints bullpen ERA climbing towards 6.00 they signed someone with experience in the American Association. Left-handed reliever Aaron Correa, who pitched for the Winnipeg Goldeyes this season and the Sioux City Explorers last year, was signed on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old lefty pitched nine games for the Goldeyes in 2013 and was 0-0 with a 5.00 ERA in nine games (one start). In 18.0 innings pitched he walked 10 and struck out 10 while opponents hit .269 against him. His final appearance with the Goldeyes was a start against the Saints on June 18 at Midway Stadium. His lone mistake was a grand slam home run he gave up to Craig Brazell, the final game Brazell would play for the Saints before being signed by a Japanese Major League team. In back-to-back relief appearances on June 5 and June 9 he allowed just one run in 7.1 innings of relief.
Correa began his professional career last season with the Explorers. He was 2-4 with an 8.61 ERA in 15 games (five starts). In 38.2 innings pitched he walked 15 and struck out 21 while opponents hit .363 against him.
The Saints also activated St. Thomas University graduate Dylan Thomas from the disabled list. The right-handed pitcher will start Thursday night's game against the Goldeyes.
In order to make room for Correa and Thomas the Saints released right-handed pitcher Luke Anderson, who was 2-2 with a 6.15 ERA in nine starts, and placed right-handed pitcher Wes Roemer on the inactive list.
The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22 players, 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
