Sarnia Sting News Release

The Sarnia Sting hosted the Barrie Colts for some Thursday night hockey at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

It was the first of two regular season matchups on the docket for these two teams this season.

Tonight was somewhat of a goaltender's battle. For the Sting, Ethan Langevin was twine tending; Barrie went with first-year import pick Maksim Zhukov. With a combined 61 shots on goal throughout the evening, both netminders were kept very busy.

The first period was pretty tame, with only eight shots on goal per team. But things picked up fast. We'll move right into the second period action.

Sting forward Hugo Leufvenius was a force tonight. Five minutes into the second period, he unleashed his power. Leufvenius went in alone on Zhukov and wired home his seventh goal of the season. Leufvenius was sent in on the breakaway by linemate Adam Ruzicka. Leufvenius's combination of speed and shot accuracy gave us a 1-0 lead.

Before the end of the second, Barrie responded. Colts forward Luke Bignell picked up his fourth of the season after a scramble play in front of Langevin. We had a 1-1 game.

In the third frame, Leufvenius continued his ways. The hulking power forward scored his second of the night on another perfect snipe past Zhukov. Once again, Ruzicka held the primary assist. Justin McCombs had the secondary apple. Leufvenius gave us a 2-1 lead.

Late in the third, Colts forward Aidan Brown tied the game at 2-2. We were headed to extras.

Barrie overage forward Lucas Chiodo scored the game-winning goal with a swift wraparound play on Langevin. Tonight's final score was 3-2 for the Colts.

The official box score can be viewed here.

We return to action on Saturday night in Windsor. Game time against the Spitfires is 7:05 PM at the WFCU Centre!
