North Bay Battalion News Release
NORTH BAY, Ont. - Right winger Justin Brazeau of the North Bay Battalion has been named the Ontario Hockey League's Player of the Month for October, it was announced Thursday.
Overager Brazeau scored 11 goals and earned 15 assists for 26 points in 10 games in October.
Captain Brazeau tied a Battalion franchise record with seven points, on three goals and four assists, in an 8-3 victory Oct. 21 over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Centre Wojtek Wolski set the mark against the Erie Otters at Brampton on Jan. 22, 2006, before the Battalion relocated to North Bay in 2013.
Brazeau was named both the Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Week and the OHL 'On the Run' Player of the Week for the period ended Oct. 21.
A native of New Liskeard, Ont., who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 226 pounds, Brazeau had five points, including two goals, in a 5-3 road decision Oct. 12 over the Flint Firebirds. He had a four-point game, with a goal and three assists, in a 5-2 win at Erie last Saturday night.
Brazeau registered points in eight of 10 games in October, producing multi-point totals in six of them.
In his fourth season after being a 13th-round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection from the New Liskeard Cubs midgets, he entered November as the OHL scoring leader with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 15 games. He finished October six goals short of becoming the Battalion's career goal-scoring leader in the franchise's North Bay era.
In 215 OHL games through October, he had 83 goals and 75 assists for 158 points, 13th in franchise history.
Undrafted to the National Hockey League, Brazeau attended training camp with the San Jose Sharks as a free-agent invitee in September.
Previous Battalion players to be honoured were Wolski, who was Player of the Month for December, January, February and March in 2005-06, and centre Cody Hodgson for November and March in 2008-09.
