Barons Welcome Record 35,604 Fans During 2014 Opening Homestand

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons celebrated the beginning of their second season at Regions Field with a series victory over the Jacksonville Suns, capped off by a 9-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The Barons welcomed a record total of 35,604 fans through the gates during the series for an average of 7,121 fans per game. The attendance eclipsed the totals for the first five games of the record-setting "˜Jordan Season' in 1994 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium and the first season at Regions Field in 2013 for the highest opening homestand in franchise history. An attendance breakdown for those homestands are listed below:

Last season, the Barons drew the fourth-most fans in franchise history during the inaugural season at Regions Field. It was also the highest total attendance for a Southern League team in the first year of a new ballpark and the fourth-highest attendance in the modern era of the league since 1964. The highest single-season attendance mark in Barons history is 467,868, set in 1994 when Michael Jordan played in Birmingham. The second and third-higest attended seasons came in 1948 (445,926) and 1949 (421,305).
