Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, AL -- BayBears starting right hand pitcher Chase Anderson was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for April 3rd- 13th. Anderson enters the week leading the Southern League in five major categories: wins (2), earned run average (0.00), innings pitched (12), WHIP (0.58), and batting average against (.125).
The Wichita Falls, Texas native did not surrender a single earned run and allowed just one lone hit with six strikeouts over six innings of work in the opening game of the season. Anderson earned his first victory of the year as the BayBears went on to defeat the Mississippi Braves 6-2.
The righty followed that performance in the BayBears home opener on April, 9, 2014. Mobile shut out the Montgomery Biscuits 6-0, backed by Anderson's effort on the mound. He again threw six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters on his way to his second straight win.
Anderson spent all of the 2013 season with Triple-A Reno but returns to Mobile for the beginning of the 2014 season. As a member of the BayBears in 2012, Anderson complied a 5-4 with a 2.86 ERA (33ER in 104.1 IP) in 21 starts. The 2.86 ERA would have led the Southern League but he did not qualify for the minimum number of innings pitched. His .238 opponents average would have ranked fifth among all Southern League starters.
In the off-season, Anderson and his wife Anna live in McKinney, TX. The 6-0, 190 pound right hander was Selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 9th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Oklahoma.
This is Anderson and the BayBears' first pitcher of the week honors in the first eligible week of the season.
