Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Barons Professional Hockey Club announced today that they will be hosting the morning show on Cleveland's SportsTalk 850-WKNR this Friday from 6-9am. Hosting the show will be the "Voice of the Barons", Jamie Smock and Barons President, Michael T. Lehr.
SportsTalk 850-WKNR and its webcast partner, SportsTalkCleveland.com serve as the flagship station for the Barons. The three-hour program will focus primarily on the game of ice hockey and include many special guests such as Barons AHL All-Star representatives Niko Dimitrakos (dee-mee-traw-kos) and Jim Fahey, who is currently with the San Jose Sharks. Also joining the Barons on-air from the San Jose Sharks will be former 2000-01 NHL Rookie of the Year, Evgeni Nabokov. The Barons will veer from the on-ice topic to talk some baseball with Cal Ripken Jr.
Also joining the Barons on the air will be former Barons player and NHL Hall of Fame goaltender, Johnny Bower and Head Coach of St. Edwards High School hockey team, Bob Whidden, whose team will defend their state title next week.
In addition, slated for the program is Parma, Ohio native Roy Mlakar (muh-lahk-ar), who currently serves as President and CEO of the Ottawa Senators; and American Hockey League President, Dave Andrews.
The morning show will culminate with baseball legend Ripken Jr. joining the Barons on-air during the eight o'clock hour. Ripken will talk about the importance of developing young talent within a minor league system among other topics.
Listeners for Friday's show can participate by calling in to the show and will have a chance at winning great prizes throughout the morning including the first ever professional hockey player spelling bee.
The show will air live from 6am â 9am Friday morning and can be heard "world-wide" by crashing the net with the Barons webcast provider, SportsTalkCleveland.com or locally on 850-AM.
Later that night the Barons will play the Syracuse Crunch at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH at 7pm. Friday night's action begins a 7-games in 10-days stretch for the Barons. They return to home ice Saturday night when they host Rochester at 7:05pm and Sunday for a 4:05pm start against Grand Rapids. Tickets for both games are available at the Gund Arena Box Office and through all TicketMaster outlets in Northeast Ohio. More information is available at www.clevelandbarons.net.
