Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND âThe Cleveland Barons have teamed up with the Cleveland Fire Fighters Association to raise money for the Cleveland Fallen Fire Fighters Fund. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.
The Barons will play host to the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, March 1st at 7:05pm. Prior to the game, the Cleveland Fire Fighters Association will battle the Fire Department of New York from 3-5pm. After the game, from 5-7pm, the fire fighters will host a party at The Boneyard courtesy of Labatt Blue. The Greater Cleveland Fire Fighters Association is selling tickets to the combination of the fire fighter game and the Barons game to raise money for the Cleveland Fallen Fire Fighters Fund.
The Cleveland Fallen Fire Fighters Fund was established in 2001 in response to the events of 9-11. The fund offers long-term assistance to the families of firefighters lost in the line of duty. Seventy-six Cleveland firefighters have lost their lives since 1911. The fund covers financial needs that range from funeral expenses to compensation for lost income for those families.
Those interested in raising money for the Cleveland Fallen Fire Fighters Fund can purchase $21 or $14 tickets to the March 1st Barons game. Five dollars from each ticket will be donated to the fund. Also, firefighters will hold a boot collection throughout the game for additional donations. To purchase tickets, contact Group Sales Manager Matt Ippolito of the Barons by calling 216-420-2545.
"The Barons have been extremely generous in their efforts to raise money for the Cleveland Fallen Fighter Fund," stated Sean DeCrane, Secretary of the Cleveland Fire Fighters Association. "Now, it's up to us to go out and beat those New Yorkers."
After the Barons play the Lock Monsters, the Gund Arena ice will be available for an open skate. Barons players and firefighters will take part in the skate held immediately following the game. Fans are welcome and encouraged to bring their skates to the game. Skates will not be provided at the game.
"The Cleveland Barons are proud to get behind such a wonderful cause," said Lehr. "The city of Cleveland owes a great deal to these civil servants and will have a chance to give a little back at the Barons game on the 1st."
