HOOVER, Ala. –- The Suns lost for the sixth consecutive game Friday in a 3-2 defeat by the Birmingham Barons in front of 7,967 fans at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The Suns (16-18) got their sole offense from Reggie Abercrombie, who hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Suns manager moved Abercrombie – normally the team's leadoff hitter – to the No. 9 slot to try to spark his offensive production.

Otherwise, the Suns were stymied by Barons starter Enemencio Pacheco. Pacheco (3-0) pitched 7-2/3 innings, scattering six hits en route to the victory.

Derek Michaelis doubled off Barons closer Royce Ring with two outs in the ninth, but he was left stranded as Ring earned his sixth save.

The Barons (16-17) swept the four-game series from Jacksonville and have won eight consecutive games at home.

Suns starter Edwin Jackson pitched five innings, allowing two runs and walking four. After a run scored in the first, Jackson escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the first with a double play and a situation with two runners on with nobody out in the second inning. However, in the fifth inning, Jackson allowed back-to-back hits putting runners in scoring position for Darron Ingram, whose groundout tied the game, 2-2.

In the seventh, Suns reliever Scott Proctor allowed a walk and a bunt single with one out. His balk moved the runners into scoring position, making Ryan Hankins' fly ball to left a sacrifice fly which scored Chad Durham. That gave the Barons a 3-2 lead, dealing a loss to Proctor (1-2).

Mike Collins had two hits to lead the Suns.

The Suns return to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 7:05 p.m. Saturday when they begin a four-game series with the Orlando Rays. Left-hander Eric Stults (2-3, 5.28 ERA) is scheduled to face Rays righty Jim Magrane (2-2, 4.54).
