Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The Mobile BayBears losing streak ended at five Friday night, in front of a sellout crowd of 6,133, as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx threw the game away, literally.
Trailing West Tenn 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the BayBears scored three runs to take the lead for good at 5-4. Rich Gomez started things with a one-out, solo homerun, his fourth of the season. Then, following a walk to Jake Gautreau, Ben Johnson hit an RBI double to right-center, as the throw in from the outfield got past the catcher, the pitcher, John Webb, backing up the play, threw wildly to second base. The throw would roll through the outfield as Johnson rounded the bases with the go-ahead score.
BayBears' starter, Chris Rojas earned the win. Rojas (2-3) threw six innings, allowing four runs on six basehits, while striking out three. Rusty Tucker bounced back from his first blown save of the season the night before, to earn his ninth save of the year.
Mobile's Danny Bravo drove in the first to BayBears' runs of the night with a clutch two-out single scoring Johnson and Humberto Quintero.
The BayBears will host the Carolina Mudcats for the start of a four-game series beginning Saturday night. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under through the Hank Aaron Stadium gates will receive a free baseball glove. The gates will open at 6:00 for the 7:05 game.
