
Barons Rally in Eighth Inning for Wednesday Win over Suns

Hoover, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons (22-43) scored eight runs in the eighth inning, overcoming a 5-3 deficit, for an 11-5 win over the Jacksonville Suns (37-28) in front of 2,942 Wednesday at Regions Park.
Barons reliever Miguel Socolovich (4-3) picked up the winning decision, giving up one unearned run in two innings. Suns reliever Garrett Parcell (2-4) fell in the loss, allowing six runs, one earned, over two-thirds of the eighth inning.
The Suns opened the scoring in the fifth inning against Barons starter Jacob Rasner. Lee Mitchell drove in Ozzie Martinez and Ryan Curry with a two-out single for a 2-0 lead. Barons shortstop Fernando Cortez next misplayed a Mark Saccomanno ground ball, allowing two more runs to score for a 4-0 score.
Birmingham cut the lead to two runs with a fifth inning run and two runs in the seventh inning. In the fifth, Tyler Kuhn tripled over the right fielder and scored on a Dale Mollenhauer ground ball for a 4-1 score. The barons scored two in the seventh against Suns reliever Dan Jennings. Miguel Negron singled home Kuhn before Mollenhauer later scored on a wild pitch for a 4-3 game.
The Suns extended the lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning against Socolovich. Matt Dominguez reached on an error and scored on a two-out triple from Tim Torres for a 5-3 lead.
The Barons broke the game open during an eight-run, 13-batter eighth inning. Reliever Garrett Parcell allowed a double and two walks to load the bases. Mollenhauer grounded to the first baseman Mark Saccomanno who threw into the back of runner Tyler Kuhn while sliding into second base allowing two runs to score while moving Kuhn to third base. Miguel Negron then beat out fielder's choice to bring in Kuhn for the go-ahead run at 6-5. C.J. Retherford doubled down the left field line to score Negron and open a 7-5 lead. After a Fernando Cortez infield hit, Jim Gallagher singled to centerfield to bring in Retherford at 8-5. Cortez scored on the play after centerfielder Greg Burns' throw went wild coming back to the infield for a 9-5 lead while ending Parcell's day.
After the bases loaded against reliever Kyle Gunderson, Salvador Sanchez singled to centerfield for two more runs and an 11-5 score.
