MOBILE, Ala. - Each BayBear pitcher surrendered a home run, and the Tennessee Smokies ended up clobbering six dingers in a 13-5 throttling of the BayBears on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium, pushing the BayBears to four games back in the South Division.

Alberto Cabrera did allow the BayBears (34-30) to take the lead early in the contest as Konrad Schmidt singled home Evan Frey in the bottom of the first. The BayBears picked up another in the second as Jake Elmore doubled and scored on a fielder's choice by Frey to make it 2-0.

Tennessee (40-25) began their lift-off in the third against Pat McAnaney (2-5). After singles by Ty Wright and Blake Lalli, Russ Canzler belted a three-run homer to put the Smokies in front for the first time. They would never trail again as they extended their advantage to 4-2 in the fourth on a Wright groundout to score Brandon Guyer.

As close as the BayBears would get happened in the fifth inning when Collin Cowgill reached on an error and scored on a sac fly by Bryan Byrne. With a walk to Taylor Harbin, Cabrera left with the bases loaded, but Oswaldo Martinez (1-0) fanned Jake Elmore to end the threat.

Guyer smashed a tater in the sixth to begin the onslaught as the Smokies scored nine in the last four frames. Guyer homered again in the ninth inning against Roque Mercedes, who also coughed up a three-run shot to Tony Thomas.

Josh Vitters joined in on the fun with a two-run jack against Bryan Henry in the seventh inning. Marwin Gonzalez hit a pinch-hit homer off Kyler Newby in the eighth.

The BayBears battle the Smokies in game two of their five-game set on Thursday night at 7:05. It's Thirsty Thursday with $1 Buds and Pepsi available from 6 to 8 p.m.
