Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH - John Pohl scored two goals leading the Marlies over the Barons 5-2 spoiling Legends night at National City Rink. Mike Iggulden scored a goal and assist in the losing effort for Cleveland and is now tied for the team lead in points with 23.
Special teams play was the difference in the opening period as the Barons failed to score on four power play opportunities while Toronto converted on their only chance. With 18:17 expired in the period, Toronto's Brendan Bell spun a puck blindly in front of the Barons goal banking it off a skate and into the Cleveland net for a 1-0 lead. The goal by Bell was his 2nd of the year and was assisted by Bates Battaglia and John Pohl. The Barons netminder Nolan Schaefer started his fifth consecutive game, while Toronto's J.S. Aubin started his fourth in-a-row.
The Marlies converted on both power play chances they received in the second period and added a short-handed goal for a 4-1 lead over the Barons after two periods of play. John Pohl scored both power play goals for his team leading 15th and 16th goals of the year. The short-handed goal came from Tyler Beechey after stripped Schaefer of the puck in the Cleveland zone and converted into an empty goal. Mike Iggulden trimmed the lead to three goals with a breakaway score, his 11th of the year. Iggulden's goal was assisted by Schaefer and Aaron Power.
Toronto secured the game with another power play goal just 64-seconds in the final frame for a 5-1 lead as Brad Leeb scored his 8th of the year from Beechy. The Barons answered with a power play goal from Tim Conboy, his fifth of the season surpassing his rookie total from a year ago of four. Conboy's goal was assisted by Iggulden and Ray DiLauro as the Barons scored a power play goal for the fifth consecutive game.
The Barons four-game home stand comes to a close tomorrow afternoon with another "Barons Kids' Day Matinee" against the Rochester Americans at 1pm. The live broadcast of Saturday's game will begin at 12:50pm on-line via the B2-Networks. Tickets for tomorrow's game are available at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
