PEARL, MS -- The Birmingham Barons jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first two frames en route to a 7-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves Friday night at Trustmark Park. The series finale and rubber match is slated for Saturday at 6:00 PM.

Mississippi (29-24, 62-59) plated two runs on six hits while Birmingham (30-23, 63-59) scored seven runs on 10 hits. Jacob May and Tony Thomas both posted two-hit nights for the Barons. Nick Delmonico drove home two runs.

The Barons took a 1-0 lead in the first when May walked, stole second and came around to score on a Delmonico double to left field.

A four-run second, gave Birmingham a 5-0 advantage. Thomas and Jeremy Dowdy both singled before Keenyn Walker drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Back-to-back singles from Tim Anderson and May plated two runs. Delmonico then walked to bring in another before Marrero's ground out brought home the fourth run.

In the fifth, Marrero singled and scored on a Danny Hayes double to right field. Hayes later scored on Joey DeMichele's single to left field, extending Birmingham's lead to 7-0.

Mississippi finally got on the board in the seventh. Matt Kennelly and Kevin Ahrens both doubled to plate the Braves' first run. Ahrens took third on a ground out and then scored on an Eric Garcia ground out to short, making it a 7-2 game.

Frankie Montas (5-4) worked six frames for the Barons and picked up the win. He held the Braves to just two hits and walked three while fanning six batters.

Stephen Janas (1-6) gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and four walks. He struck out five in five innings pitched and took the loss. Mitch Lambson and Mauricio Cabrera both worked two scoreless innings in relief.

In Saturday's series finale at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves send lefty Andrew Barbosa (4-2, 3.47) to the hill against Barons right-hander Myles Jaye (11-6, 3.01). First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM.
