Shuckers Squeeze out Win over Generals

Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - A suicide squeeze in the fifth inning boosted the Biloxi Shuckers on their way to a 3-0 shutout win Friday over the Jackson Generals at The Ballpark at Jackson. Yadiel Rivera hit a leadoff triple in the fifth inning and scored during a bunt from Tyrone Taylor. The successful squeeze spoiled an otherwise solid start from Generals southpaw James Gillheeney.
Gillheeney tossed a team-season-high eight innings in the second-longest start of his professional career, trailing only a nine-inning complete game August 3, 2012 for the High-A High Desert Mavericks. He fell to 4-5 in a loss to Shuckers right-hander Tyler Wagner (10-5). Wagner fired seven shutout innings for Biloxi.
Biloxi (27-26, 70-51) scored an early run in a decisive fifth inning. Rivera tripled with one away in the top of the inning, snapping Gillheeney's streak of 11 straight batters retired. Taylor drove in Rivera with a bunt single on a suicide squeeze for a 1-0 Shuckers lead. In the bottom of the frame, Jackson loaded the bases with no outs, but a fly out and a double play kept the Generals off the scoreboard.
After closing the top of the fifth by starting a 1-6-3 double play, Gillheeney wrapped up his great start for the Generals (17-36, 46-75). He posted perfect work in the sixth through eighth innings, finishing the contest with just one run and three hits allowed over eight frames. Gillheeney had six strikeouts and no walks.
Wagner scattered six hits in seven innings pitched to earn a victory. He recorded six strikeouts compared to one walk and went 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings after escaping the jam in the fifth.
The Shuckers increased their lead to 3-0 with a ninth-inning home run against Generals reliever Richard Vargas. Brett Phillips drew a one-out walk ahead of Arcia, who crushed a two-run blast to left-center field for his sixth homer of the season.
Damien Magnifico tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Wagner for his 17th save in 19 opportunities with Biloxi. The Shuckers also claimed an early series victory with the win, taking a 3-1 edge in this five-game set prior to Saturday's finale. Jackson outhit Biloxi by a 7-4 margin Friday in a three-run loss.
The finale between the Generals and the Shuckers takes place Saturday at The Ballpark at Jackson at 6:05 p.m. CT. Jackson right-hander Edwin Diaz (3-10, 4.59) is scheduled to pitch against Biloxi southpaw Hobbs Johnson (7-6, 3.45). Fans can listen to the contest on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 5:50 p.m. CT with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard. An online video stream is also available via MiLB.TV.
Jackson Sport and Fitness and WBBJ sponsor Diamond Jaxx Throwback Night with postgame fireworks. The Generals will wear West Tenn Diamond Jaxx uniforms Saturday, and the jerseys will be auctioned off online ( generals.milbauctions.com/) to benefit Special Needs Athletics. Only six Generals home games are left this season, and tickets are still available for all of those contests.
