Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL - After losing the first two of a five-game series at Regions Field, the Birmingham Barons (4-5) evened up the series at 2-2 after dropping the Jacksonville Suns (3-6) by a 8-2 score Saturday night.
Right-hander Terry Doyle (W, 1-0) picked up his first win of 2014 after allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work, with Frank De Los Santos (H, 1) and Nelvin Fuentes combining for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief.
After Isaac Galloway started the third inning with a leadoff triple, Alfredo Silverio would drive in Galloway to give the Suns an early 1-0 lead.
That lead would not stand for long as the Barons would score two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, knocking out Suns starter Justin Nicolino (L, 0-2) in the process.
Nicolino would allow six runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4.1 innings, while walking one and striking out four Barons.
Brady Shoemaker (HR, 2) would make it a 6-2 ballgame with a solo home run in the sixth, but that's as close as the Suns would get to the Barons the rest of the way.
The Barons would also tack on one run in the sixth and another in the eighth inning.
Much like Friday's ballgame, missed opportunities would come back to haunt the Suns. Jacksonville would finish hitless in ten at-bats with runners in scoring position, leaving ten men on base in the process.
In Sunday's series finale, Jacksonville will trot out right-hander Jose Urena (0-1, 14.54), with the Barons set to start the righty Nick McCully (1-0, 0.00). First pitch on Sunday from Regions Field is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
Suns fans can listen to Sunday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show on Suns Sunday.
