Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons picked up their second victory in a row over the Jacksonville Suns, winning 8-2 Saturday night in front of 7,895 fans atRegions Field.

Jacksonville broke a scoreless tie in the third, getting a leadoff triple by Isaac Gallow who then scored on an RBI groundout by Alfredo Silverio to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead would be short lived as Miguel Gonzalez tied the game with a double to left-center scoring Chris Curley and later scored on a groundout by Jamie Pedroza giving the Barons a 2-1 after three innings.

The Barons would plate two more in the fourth thanks to a pair of Suns errors. The duo of Gonzalez and Curley teamed up again as Gonzalez lined his second hit to left and scampered to second when the ball was bobbled by left fielder Alfredo Silverio, allowing Curley to score from first. Gonzalez would come around to score on a throwing error by shortstop Danny Black on a ground ball by Keenyn Walker, giving the Barons a 4-1 advantage.

Michael Earley knocked Suns starter Justin Nicolino (0-2, 4.82) out of the game in the 5th with a triple to right-center, scoring JaimePedroza and giving the Barons a 5-1 lead. Reliever Robert Morey came on in place of Nicolina and scored early from third with a wild pitch to increase the Barons lead to 6-1.

Barons starter Terry Doyle (1-1, 5.23) picked up his first regular season win as a Baron since September 1st, 2011, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five over 5.1 IP.

Micah Johnson added to the lead in the sixth with his 2nd home run of the season, a solo shot into the Barons bullpen giving the Barons a 7-2 lead. Trayce Thompson capped the scoring with an RBI single in the 8th, giving the Barons an 8-2 advantage.

Chris Curley finished 3-for-4 on the night, his first three-hit game at the Double-A level while Gonzalez finished 2-for-4 and is hitting .364 over his first three games.

With the win, the Barons improved to 4-5 while the Suns fell to 3-6 on the season.

The Barons will look to pick up their first series victory of the season Sunday afternoon as RHP Nick McCully (1-0, 0.00) takes the hill against RHP Jose Urena (0-1, 14.54). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM CDT.
