Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - The Mississippi Braves (4-5) evened the series with Jackson on Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over the Generals (5-4). The M-Braves used great pitching and 11 hits to force the rubber match of the series on Sunday.
Mississippi scored three runs in the fifth inning to jump ahead 4-0. Joe Leonard hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Matt Lipka. Seth Loman added a two-run homer off of Jackson starter Cam Hobson (1-1).
Hobson went 6.0 innings and allowed eight hits, four runs and two walks suffering his first loss of the season.
Ketel Marte (2-4, R) extended his current hitting streak to six consecutive games with a multi-hit performance. His latter hit-a leadoff double in the sixth-led to Jackson's first run as Jamal Austin (1-4, RBI, R) followed suit with a double of his own to score the shortstop.
Dan Paolini (1-4, RBI) doubled on a line drive to left field that scored Austin three at-bats later.
However, the rally was short-lived as the Mississippi bullpen allowed one hit for the remainder of the game.
John Cornely struck out three and retired all six hitters faced in the seventh and eighth innings. Shae Simmons (3) recorded his second save against Jackson this week after retiring three of the four hitters in the bottom of the ninth.
