Lancaster Stormers News Release
The York Revolution stood one big hit from a rout in the top of the fourth inning.
Instead, the game did a complete 180-degree turn, and it was the Lancaster Barnstormers pulling away for a 9-4 victory Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The situation was fairly bleak for the Barnstormers in the top of the fourth. York already led, 3-1, on a three-run homer by Brandon Boggs in the third, and the Revs chased starter Matt Packer with a pair of singles in the top of the fourth. Nate Reed entered the game and walked Eric Patterson to load the bases and Bryan Pounds to force home a run.
All of a sudden, Reed (1-3) locked in and struck out Nick Ferdinand and Boggs to escape the threat, the first two of five consecutive strikeouts recorded by the left-hander.
Lancaster went on the attack in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Jones and Bryant Nelson opened with singles, but it looked like the Barnstormers might not score. Wilson Batista popped to shortstop for the first out. Juan Apodaca's fly ball to left fell in front of Boggs, but the Revs were able to force Jones at third for the second out.
Anderson Feliz stretched the inning with a sharp single to right to load the bases. For the second straight game, Jerry Owens delivered with the bases full, this time with a two-run single to center. Feliz also scored, and Owens charged to third when the throw from Shannon Wilkerson eluded Ferdinand at third. Yusuke Kajimoto connected on the next pitch from Matt Neil (2-4) for a 6-4 lead.
Doubles by Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Nelson gave the Barnstormers bullpen a 7-4 lead, and Cavazos-Galvez singled home two more in the sixth.
Meanwhile, the Lancaster relief corps took the game off the sheet. Reed finished his 2 1/3 inning stretch with three walks and five punchouts. Pete Andrelczyk allowed a single and a walk in 1 1/3. Bryan Morgado survived a leadoff windblown double in the eighth, and Chad Beck worked a perfect ninth to nail down the game.
The series concludes on Monday evening. Rommie Lewis (4-5) makes the start for York against Joe Gardner (2-1). Lewis is 3-0 against the Barnstormers this season, and Gardner shut out York on one single at Santander Stadium on June 10.
