
Ducks Take Third Consecutive Game At Home From Bluefish

(Central Islip, NY - June 21, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-35) fell to the Long Island Ducks (38-17) 8-3 at Bethpage Ballpark on a sun-drenched Father's Day in the Empire State. Long Island improves to 19-1 in the month of June.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Reinaldo Lopez (0-3) suffered the loss, pitching four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, walking one, not striking out a batter and allowing one home run. Long Island Starting Pitcher Mark Rogers picked up a no-decision, tossing four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out five. Bruce Kern (3-1) picked up the victory in relief, going two innings, giving up one run on two hits, striking out three.
Bridgeport got on the board early in the top of the first inning off Rogers, as Ethan Chapman led off the game with a walk, and later scored on a wild pitch to give the 'Fish a 1-0 lead. Long Island responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame off Lopez on a sacrifice fly by Jon Griffin, plating Bryan Sabatella, who led off the inning with a double. The Bluefish regained the lead in the top of the second on an RBI double by Matt Burns, scoring Matt Wessinger, who singled and stole a base earlier in the inning. The Ducks answered in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Lew Ford, scoring Dan Lyons who was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and for the second time in the ballgame we were tied.
Long Island scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to break the game open and they never looked back. The decisive blow was a three-run home run in the fourth inning by Dan Lyons off Lopez, his second roundtripper in as many games against the 'Fish, giving the home team a 5-2 lead. The 'Fish got back to within two runs at 5-3 in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Welington Dotel, scoring Ethan Chapman. Reegie Corona's two-run double in the bottom of the fifth made it 7-3 Long Island, and they went on to the 8-3 victory to take the first three games of the series. Six of the eight runs scored by Long Island in the contest came with two outs. Infielder Luis Rodriguez led the way for Bridgeport with two hits, extending his on-base streak to six consecutive games.
The 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues tomorrow night with the finale of the four game set beginning at 6:35 p.m. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, June 23rd, when they host the Camden Riversharks to begin a brief three-game homestand in the Park City. Fans in attendance will receive a Magic City Collector's pin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
