Barnstormers Trip Up Camden With Short Roster

Their top two RBI producers have gone to the Atlanta Braves, their leadoff hitter is away from the club for three days, and their big bopping right fielder got hurt during the game.

Yet, the Lancaster Barnstormers still put together enough offense to drop the Camden Riversharks, 5-2, Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The victory was Lancaster's fourth in five tries in the second half and 34th of 45 overall since May 27.

Lancaster got to Camden starter Sean Jarrett (4-5) early. The right-hander, just off the disabled list, hit Fehlandt Lentini with a pitch in the first inning. Lentini took second on a passed ball and scored on Tommy Everidge's liner to left center which skipped past Steven Doetsch's diving try for a double.

Lentini, who scored three times on the night, doubled to right center with two outs in the third and scored in front of Blake Gailen's 12th home run of the season for a 3-0 lead.

Lancaster muffed a bases loaded, none-out opportunity in the fourth, but was given another chance in the fifth and got one run across on a force play grounder by Emerson Frostad. The Barnstormers loaded the bags again in the sixth and scored one when Lentini drew a walk.

Mark Brackman (6-3) was brilliant for 5 1/3 innings, limiting the Riversharks to three singles. Paddy Matera's third homer of the season, a drive to the screen in right center, broke the spell. Brian Burgamy and Pedro Feliz followed with sharp singles, and Horacio Ramirez was summoned from the bullpen. The former Braves starter coaxed a double play grounder out of Raul Padron to quash the threat.

Burgamy slammed a two-out homer to right in the eighth, which served to set up a save opportunity for Tim Hamulack. The lefty converted his ninth straight when Lentini tracked down Doetsch's deep drive to left for the final out.

Lancaster and Camden will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Thursday evening at 7:00. The Barnstormers will send J.D. Durbin (7-8) to the mound against lefty Keith Weiser (4-5). NOTES: Gailen's homer was his first in July...Lancaster has won Brackman's last five starts and seven of his last eight...He has a personal four-game winning streak...The right-hander remained tied with Bridgeport's Paul Oseguera for the league strikeout lead...Both fanned three in their Wednesday start for a total of 77 on the season...Hamulack threw his 14th straight scoreless one-inning relief effort...He tied Camden's John Lujan for the league saves lead with 16...Camden, which was last in the league in homers coming into the series, has hit six in two games...Right fielder Ryan Harvey came out of the game after the fifth inning when he took a long stride trying to beat a double play relay throw...Pitchers had to bat the remainder of the night when DH Emerson Frostad took over in right...Ramirez had the only AB, striking out.
