Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 18, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 2-1 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
After a one hour and 16 minute rain delay, the Ducks jumped out in front with a RBI single by Shawn Williams in the second inning off Patriots starter Doug Arguello. Long Island added another in the fourth, as Matt Fleishman followed three consecutive singles with a RBI single of his own, increasing the Ducks lead to 2-0.
The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the fifth on a RBI sac fly by Jonny Tucker off Ducks starter Nick Singleton, but because of Kraig Binick's incredible diving catch on the play, that was all the Pats could muster.
Singleton (2-2) was dominant in the win, tossing six inning of one-run baseball, allowing just six hits while striking out 11, including six in the first two innings. Arguello (5-4) took the loss, lasting seven innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Jon Hunton earned his sixth save of the season with a perfect ninth, aided by a leaping grab at the left field wall by Binick.
Williams paced the Flock with three hits, while Fleishman, Brandon Sing and Josh Johnson each added two.
