York Revolution News Release
The Bridgeport Bluefish took advantage of one big inning, headlined by former Revs third baseman Shea Hillenbrand's three-run homer, in defeating the York Revolution 8-4 on Wednesday at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will look to split the series in Thursday's finale, wrapping up the homestand at 6:30 p.m.
Hillenbrand, a two-time Major League All-Star, delivered the big blow in a five-run sixth inning that broke a tie score. It was part of a four-RBI day for Hillenbrand who last played professionally for the Revs in 2008, and it was his first home run and first RBI while playing in his seventh contest on his comeback to the pro game.
Bridgeport took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Prentice Redman led off the inning with a triple to left-center, Brock Peterson reached on a walk, and Luis Lopez smacked an RBI single through the right side to give the Bluefish the lead. Hillenbrand followed with the game-changing three-run homer to left, after which James Simmons cracked a solo shot to right-center, capping the outburst with back-to-back round trippers. Hillenbrand drove in one more on a ground out in the seventh.
The Bluefish took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, receiving an RBI double from Redman, as well as an RBI single to right by Lopez.
The Revs battled back, first scoring on Jeff Fiorentino's leadoff home run down the right field line in the bottom of the first, and then tying the game in the third when Ramon Castro legged out a two-out infield single to produce a run. The Revs were prevented from ever taking the lead, however, as Andres Perez followed with a sharp grounder to short on which Eddie Rogers made a diving play to save a run, ending the inning.
York pieced together a threat in the fourth when Chris Nowak led off with a single and James Shanks reached on a bunt hit, but Bluefish starter Paul Oseguera recorded the next three outs to keep the game tied.
Revs starter Chris Cody (4-11) settled in after the first inning and breezed through a stretch of 10 consecutive batters where he allowed only one base runner to reach on a defensive error, but suffered his sixth consecutive loss when the Bluefish mounted their big rally against him in the sixth.
York had one last gasp in the bottom of the seventh when Liubiemithz Rodriguez and Castro rapped back-to-back two-out RBI singles pulling within 8-4. Perez then walked, but Nowak was retired for the final out of the inning when his hard hit line drive was drilled right at second baseman Luis Figueroa who made the catch.
Oseguera (6-2) earned the win, credited with an official six innings of work during which he allowed just two runs on five hits. Oseguera was forced to exit with a leg injury with two outs in the sixth, but was credited with the inning-ending strikeout of Scott Grimes as he had jumped ahead with an 0-2 count before being forced to leave.
Notes: Bluefish closer Jorge Julio also exited due to an apparent arm injury with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but was credited with the final strikeout of Castro to end the game, despite an appearance by Jorge DePaula who inherited a 2-1 count. Castro's two RBI made him the first player in Revs history to reach 200 RBI in his York career; he now leads the league with 53 RBI for the season. Redman's two doubles and a triple give him six extra-base hits in the first three games of the series. Simmons' homer was his third of the series. The Revs will look to turn around a 1-5 start to the second half when they host the Bluefish on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Lefty Derrick Gordon will make his Revolution debut, against Bridgeport southpaw Dan Serafini (3-0, 2.73).
