SUGAR LAND, Texas - Sean Morgan, Ryan McKeller, Joseph Frias and Gary Majewski held the Blue Crabs to one run on five hits to pick up the 3-1 win in the series finale at Constellation Field in front of 6519 on Wednesday night. The series ended even at 3-3.
Coming up next...The Sugar Land Skeeters (3-3) have the day off as they prepare for a seven-game road trip in six days up north against the Long Island Ducks and Somerset Patriots from July 20-25. For more information regarding the road trip, check the Skeeters website at SugarLandSkeeters.com.
Sean Morgan made his first start for Manager Gary Gaetti having pitched 23 times out of the bullpen this season. The former Clements High School standout gave up the lead early in the first but settled in nicely in the second and third innings. Morgan finished after working three innings giving up one run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
In the first, the Blue Crabs used a one-out triple from right fielder Mike Daniel to get a runner in scoring position. The left fielder Brian Barton followed his teammate up with an RBI single up the middle off Morgan's glove to bring the first run across, 1-0.
Dan Reichert (6-4) made his second start of the series, fourth overall against the Skeeters, in the final game of the series Wednesday night. The right hander only managed three innings in his second outing compared to his seven in game one. He allowed two runs on four hits leaving in line for the loss.
The Skeeters countered the Blue Crabs first with two in the third to take the lead after a scoreless second. Bubba Bell reached with a one-out double down the left-field line and was followed by a walk to Ofilio Castro to put runners on first and second. Jason Lane flew out to left to put two outs on the board, but Josh Pressley and Aaron Bates both hit back-to-back RBI singles to score Bell and Castro to give the home team the lead, 2-1.
Bryan Dumesnil replaced Reichert in the fourth, but the Skeeters took it to the lefty from the start. Iggy Suarez started the hitting with a one out single and was quickly pushed to third on Bell's second hit of the game, a single into right. One batter later, Castro added the run to the board with an RBI single into right to double the lead, 3-1.
That was all the scoring the Skeeters need in this game. Ryan McKeller (2-4) grabbed the win after replacing Morgan in the fourth firing three no-hit innings while just walking one and striking out two. Joseph Frias went two innings and closer Gary Majewski picked up another save (11) in his third straight night of work to help the Skeeters end the series with a 3-1 win.
Skeeters Bites: Josh Pressley (10) and Steve Moss (9) extended season-high hitting streaks...Ofilio Castro marked his 31st RBI of the year...Bubba Bell hit his 21st double of the season...Gary Majewski picked up his 11th save in 13 tries.
