Lancaster Stormers News Release

For the second straight evening, the Lancaster Barnstormers came up just short in a ninth-inning rally as York prevailed, 5-3, Saturday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

The result gave York a 3-2 lead in the 2013 War of the Roses. The Barnstormers have now dropped five of their last six contests.

Lefty Rommie Lewis carried a 5-2 lead into the ninth inning, but Kody Kirkland ignited the Barnstormers with a one-out double to right center. Newcomer Stephen Holdren picked up a walk, and Gustavo Molina delivered a run with a single to right. Lewis walked Jerry Owens to load the bases and was lifted by Revs manager Mark Mason. Stephen Penney took over to face Olmo Rosario, who had already belted a pair of homers on the night. The right-hander fanned the Lancaster shortstop on a 3-2 pitch for the second out. Blake Gailen's sharp grounder on the right side was snagged by Brian Burgamy for the final out as Penney recorded his third save.

Rosario's first home run was quickly overcome by York. Ruddy Yan bunted back to starter Brian Grening (0-2) to open the bottom of the first. Grening had the ball slip from his grasp for an error, opening the way to a two-run inning. Andres Perez grounded a single into left. With one out, both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Yan scored when Andy Marte chopped a single over Kirkland's head at third, and Perez crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Fiorentino.

Salvador Paniagua ripped a leadoff homer to left center in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. A botched double play led to a fourth York run in the sixth inning. Three walks around an infield single in the bottom of the seventh made it 5-1 before Rosario narrowed the gap with his second blast over the "Arch Nemesis" in the eighth.

Chris Cody (3-1) beat the Barnstormers for the second time in a week. The left-hander limited Lancaster to six hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out nine.

The third game of the four-game series is scheduled for 5:00 on Sunday. Lancaster will send left-hander Lenny DiNardo (2-3) to the hill to face right-hander Nick Green (2-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 4:45.
