York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution won their season-best fourth straight game, defeating the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-3 in front of 4,728 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday evening. The Revs have now won three straight head-to-head to take a 3-2 lead in this year's "War of the Roses" series which continues on Sunday at 5 p.m.

With a once four-run lead cut to two in the ninth inning, reliever Stephen Penney entered with the bases loaded and one out, and struck out Olmo Rosario who had homered twice earlier in the game, before retiring Blake Gailen on a ground ball to first base to secure the victory, which became a nailbiter in the ninth.

Lancaster rallied to put the go ahead run on base in the ninth inning, as Kody Kirkland doubled with one out, Stephen Holdren walked, and Gustavo Molina singled to right, driving in a run to cut it to 5-3. Jerry Owens then walked to load the bases, before Penney came in to escape the jam.

Rosario homered to left field in the first inning to hand Lancaster a quick 1-0 lead. His other home run came in the eighth, cutting the lead to 5-2.

The Revs responded immediately in their half of the first inning, scoring twice on an RBI single to left by Andy Marte and a sacrifice fly to center from Jeff Fiorentino to go in front 2-1.

York tacked on runs with a homer to left by Salvador Paniagua in the fifth, an error by Barnstormers first baseman Daryle Ward on an attempted double play turn in the sixth, and on a bases loaded walk to Brian Burgamy in the seventh, building the lead to 5-1 at that point. Burgamy extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games with the walk.

Chris Cody (3-1) earned his second win in as many starts against the Barnstormers, allowing just one run in seven innings of work. His nine strikeouts tied his Revs career high for the third time, and first time since July 30, 2011.

Barnstormers starter Brian Grening (0-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs, only one earned in six innings.

The Revs will look for a fifth straight win on Sunday, as Nick Green (2-0, 4.61) faces Lenny DiNardo (2-3, 6.31) in the third game of the four-game series. It is an Autograph Sunday with Catch on the Field and Kids Run the Bases postgame. The day begins with Baseball Chapel at 3:15 p.m., as gates open at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
