Lancaster Stormers News Release
Jutt Hileman tripled into the right field corner to drive home two runs in the top of the 10th inning Thursday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers took the rubber game of a three-game series, 6-4, at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.
Matt LeCroy reached on a bobble by Alex Prieto to start the 10th inning and was replaced by pinch runner Joe Evans. Luis Perez then bunted into a force play. With Perez in motion, Lloyd Turner ripped a ball toward the middle that deflected off pitcher Eddy Ramos (0-3) toward Prieto. The Bridgeport shortstop was unable to handle that play also, giving the Barnstormers runners at first and second. Ramos struck out Jordan Herr, but Hileman knocked a 1-2 pitch down the right field line. Ryan Bear attempted a diving catch but came up short with the ball rolling to the wall.
The Barnstormers had to survive a scare in the bottom of the 10th. Judd Songster walked pinch hitter Bobby Darula and yielded a single to Calvin Pickering, putting the tying runs on base. Jay Caligiuri hit a grounder to third. The ball was fielded cleanly by Turner, but the third baseman's throw to second was low. Juan Francia was able to take the low throw and still get off the relay to first to double up Caligiuri. Brian Munhall walked, but Songster was able to strike out Prieto to nail down his second save.
Lancaster held a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the eighth. Ricardo Gomez, in his third inning of work, hit Bear with his first pitch. Gomez struck out the next two batters, but Brian Munahll tripled over Hileman's head in center to tie the game.
Bridgeport's only other productive inning was a three-run second off starter Yamel Guevara. Jesse Hoorelbeke led off with his 16th homer of the season, a blast to right center. A single by Bear, double by Pickering and three walks put the Bluefish in the lead.
Lancaster scored a run in the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Danny Gonzalez tied the game in the fifth with an RBI single, and Turner grounded to first with the bases loaded for the 4-3 advatage.
Sendy Rleal (2-3) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the victory for Lancaster.
