
Atlantic League All-Star Home Run Derby Participants Announced

Bridgewater, NJ- The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the six participants of the 2008 Atlantic League All-Star Home Run Derby to take place before the Atlantic League All-Star Game at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, July 16th.
Third baseman Brandon Larson, first baseman Josh Pressley, and utility player Matt Hagen were all selected to participate in the Home Run Derby from the Somerset Patriots. Larson was tied with Vito Chiaravalloti for most home runs on Somerset's roster with 14 in the first half. Pressley had 12 homers and Hagen 11 homers for the Patriots in the first half.
Ray Navarrete of the Long Island Ducks and Jesse Hoorelbeke of the Bridgeport Bluefish were tied for the league lead with 15 home runs in the first half to earn their spots in the contest.
Ron Davenport of the Camden Riversharks had ten home runs for Camden in the first half to round out the six participants.
The Home Run Derby will begin at 6:00 pm and consist of the top six home run hitters on the All-Star teams.
Each contestant will get five outs in the first round to see how many home runs they can hit, with anything other than a home run considered an out. The top three players with the highest number of home runs will move on to the second round.
In the second round, all totals from the previous round are wiped out and the players will get seven outs. The winner of the second round will be declared the winner of the Home Run Derby.
The 2008 Atlantic League All-Star Game will pit the very best players in the Freedom and Liberty Divisions, as voted on by the fans and those familiar with the Atlantic League, against each other in the traditional exhibition game the day after the Major League All-Star Game.
The Atlantic League All-Star Game will have several pre-game festivities including the Home Run Derby, an autograph session with all the All-Star players and coaches, live music, and many other activities. The All-Star Game will include giveaways for fans and entertainment from The ZOOperstars, BirdZerk, and a Post Game Fireworks Show unlike any seen in Central New Jersey.
