Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs dropped their first decision in six games, falling to first-half Freedom division champion Somerset 4-3. The win ends a five game winnings streak by the Blue Crabs, who sit at first place in the division.

Southern Maryland struck first, picking up two runs in the bottom of the first frame. Jeremy Owens hit an RBI single to score George Sandel, who had led off the game with a walk. Sandel would end the game 3-for-3, while Owens would go 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Owens made the highlight of the night with his glove, however, as the center fielder robbed Vito Chiarravaloti of a home run with a leaping, over the wall snag in straight away center.

Clinton Johnston was the only Blue Crab to register a hit, scoring a run to go with his 1-for-4 outing.

Mike Gibbs started the second game of his career, lasting four innings while giving up only one earned run. Gibbs was lifted for Adam Johnson, who pitched three innings and struck out two batters in the loss.

The Blue Crabs will now face off with the York Revolution, who are currently first place in the Freedom division. Tomorrow's game time will be 7:05 pm, and it will be election night at Regency Furniture Stadium.
