Lancaster Stormers News Release
Brooks Hall threw seven strong innings on Tuesday evening, pitching the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 6-2 victory over the Long Island Ducks in the opener of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Hall (10-3) allowed six hits and two runs while avoiding any walks. He struck out eight, including all three batters in the fifth inning.
Matt Marksberry struck out the side in the eighth, and Kaleb Fleck worked around consecutive bloop singles in the bottom of the ninth to nail down the win.
The Barnstormers struck in the top of the first off John Brownell (9-11). Tyler Bortnick singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and, following a walk to Trayvon Robinson, scored on Ryan Casteel's single to center.
Long Island answered immediately. Jordany Valdespin greeted Hall with a double into the right field corner. The Ducks second baseman took third on an error by right fielder Blake Gailen and crossed the plate on Lew Ford's one-out single to right.
Three runs in the third were enough for the Barnstormers. Gailen opened the inning with a walk. Robinson and Casteel followed with singles to load the bases. Josh Bell forced one run home with a walk, before K.C. Hobson and Vladimir Frias followed with sac flies.
Robinson tacked on a sac fly in the fifth, and Rico Noel capped the scoring with his third hit of the night, a single up the middle off Brownell in the seventh.
Miles Williams drove in a two-out run off Hall in the seventh inning for Long Island's second run.
The two clubs meet for a doubleheader on Wednesday. Jonathan Albaladejo (7-7) and Ty'Relle Harris (0-1) will pitch for Lancaster against Chris Pike (1-0) and Lorenzo Barcelo (2-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers' YouTube Channel, beginning at 5:45.
