June 19, 2009 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Danny Bravo sprinted home with the winning run on a bad throw by Rick Asadoorian as the Barnstormers completed a doubleheader sweep of the Bridgeport Bluefish, 6-5, in front of 5,002 Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Eric Junge fired a complete game five-hitter as Lancaster won the opener, 6-2.
With the doubleheader win, the Barnstormers climbed above .500 on the season and pulled back to within 1 ½ games of the second place Newark Bears in the Freedom Division.
Bravo led off the Lancaster eighth with a single to right center and moved to second on a bloop hit to center by Gerard Haran. Bryan Sabatella bunted back to Asadoorian (0-3). The right-hander's rushed attempt at a force play at third, skipped to the tarp, and Bravo carried the winning run across the plate several minutes after midnight.
Lancaster fell behind early in the nightcap. Adam Greenberg doubled to left and scored on a single to center by Enohel Polanco in the first inning. The Bridgeport center fielder singled home the second Bluefish run with a soft liner into left in the second, and Ryner Bautista scored on a wild pitch as Bridgeport went ahead, 3-0.
Michael Woods plated Quincy Foster with a sacrifice fly in the third and Haran's solo homer to right in the fourth, cut the Bridgeport lead to just one. However, the Bluefish got a two-run homer to right from first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke in the top of the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Lancaster tied it quickly. Lloyd Turner led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple to right center. Woods walked, and Aaron Herr grounded into a force play as Turner scored. Jed Morris followed with a homer down the right field line, his fifth of the season, tying the game at 5-5.
Ryan Cullen (4-2) worked the final 2 2/3 innings for the Barnstormers to earn the win. He allowed one infield single, walked one and struck out four.
In the opener, a long two-run homer to left by Haran off Corey Lee (2-5) in the fourth inning put Lancaster ahead, 3-2, and Junge (3-1) was able to hold on. The 32-year old right-hander allowed a single by Todd Davison and a bunt hit by Greenberg to open up the fifth, but Polanco bunted into a force play, and Luis Lopez lined into a 6-4 double play killing the threat.
Lancaster put the game away in the sixth on an RBI single by Foster and two-run double by Bravo.
The Barnstormers play their next seven on the road around the All-Star Break, returning home to take on the division rival Somerset Patriots on Monday, June 29.
