
Ducks Use Five-Run Third En Route to Victory

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 19, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday 7-5 before a past-capacity crowd of 6,087 at Citibank Park.
The Barnstormers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first when Gerard Hagen plated Bryan Sabatella with a RBI single to left field off Ducks' starter Randy Leek. Long Island came right back to tie the contest in the home half of the first as Estee Harris' RBI double scored Lew Ford, who led off the frame with a double to right field.
The Ducks exploded for five runs in the third inning off Barnstormers' starter Jason Scobie (3-3). Five hits including two-run singles off the bats of Harris and John Pachot highlighted the big frame.
Victor Rodriguez belted his third homer of the season over the left field wall to give the Flock a 7-2 advantage.
Lancaster used four hits in the top of the sixth to plate three runs. Jed Morris had the big blow as he hit a two-run double off Ducks' reliever Mike Hrynio to cut the lead to 7-5.
Leek (2-5) picked up the win firing five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, while striking out two. Jason Norderum, Joe Valentine and Billy Simas tossed the final three and one-third innings for the win.
The Ducks continue their three-game series on Saturday against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is 7:05 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 6:05 p.m. Jake Dittler makes the start for Long Island against Lancaster's Eric Ackerman. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Timber Ridge.
