Barnstormers' Schmidt Named to All-AFL First Team

CHICAGO - Eighteen players on the offensive side of the ball earned 2012 First- and Second-Team All-Arena honors, the AFL Office announced today. Among those honored was Barnstormers WR Jesse Schmidt who was named to the All-Arena first team. Schmidt joins teammate Jason Simpson who was named to the All-Arena first team defense that was announced on Wednesday.
Schmidt (6-3, 220, Buena Vista) dominated opponents accounting for nearly 40% of the Barnstormers offense in 2012. He appeared in all 18 games, recording 172 receptions for 2,218 yards and 58 touchdowns, leading the league in all 3 categories. He became the first receiver in AFL history to record back to back seasons with at least 150 receptions and 2,000 receiving yards. A six year veteran of Arena Football, Schmidt also set a franchise record with 356 points scored. He is a strong candidate for the Cutters Wide Receiver of the Year Award, which will be announced next week at Arena Bowl XXV in New Orleans.
