Lancaster Stormers News Release

LANCASTER, Pa.-Jason Perry, who has produced one of the best weeks in the five-year history of the Lancaster Barnstormers, was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays organization and has been assigned to Class AA Montgomery, Ala., it was announced today.

Perry, 28, was batting .361 with league-leading totals of six homers and 15 RBIs in the first nine games of the season for the Barnstormers. He made an immediate splash at Clipper Magazine Stadium, homering on Opening Night to break a 2-2 tie and send Lancaster to a 5-2 win over the Newark Bears. The Atlanta resident also clubbed a pair of home runs in last Tuesday's loss to Long Island and had another kept in the park by a strong wind in the late innings.

It was the last two nights in York, however, where Perry left his biggest mark on the league. In Friday evening's series opener, the lefty slugger homered in consecutive innings, driving in a total of five runs. The following night, he homered to left center in the first inning, becoming the first player in Barnstormers history to leave the ballpark on three consecutive at bats. He went on to go 3-for-3 with four RBIs in Lancaster's 14-4 win over the Revolution.

For the five games during the week, Perry batted .500 (10-for-20) with five homers and 13 RBIs.

It was not the first time that Perry has been signed away from the Barnstormers. He had signed with the club in the spring of 2008 but was signed by the Atlanta Braves during the Atlantic League spring training camp. Perry was sent initially to Class AA Mississippi of the Southern League but got off to a roaring start there and eventually worked his way to Atlanta, making his Major League debut on July 4. He tripled in his first at bat.

No replacement has been named. In a non-related move, the Barnstormers released right-handed pitcher Derek Barrows, who had made two appearances in relief this season. The roster currently stands at 23 players.

The Barnstormers will play at Long Island through the week but return home to take on the Camden Riversharks for a three-game series Friday evening, May 8. Special promotions include post-game fireworks on Saturday, May 9 and a special Mother's Day brunch on Sunday, May 10. Details can be found at www.LancasterBarnstormers.com.
