Lancaster Stormers News Release

Continuing a trend started in the second half of last season, fans have been coming through the gates at Clipper Magazine Stadium in droves through the first three homestands of the 2012 campaign.

After the first 16 home dates this year, the Barnstormers have hosted the highest total in the last three years and the second highest total since 2007. The club is up nearly 800 fans per game at the gate compared to the same number of dates in 2011.

Coming off last year's playoff run, the Barnstormers have already drawn 77,227 fans at this point. Already in 2012, the Barnstormers have exceeded a sellout crowd on two different occasions.

A portion of the increase can be attributed to an enhanced relationship with area school systems. School spirit nights have been built into the early schedule and have been a rousing success.

One such night belonged to Hempfield High School.

"Hempfield High School Night at the Barnstormers was a fantastic evening. Senior Director of Marketing, Tony DeMarco, and his staff were wonderful to work with and did most of the planning and preparation for the event. They asked us what we wanted to showcase about our school and they took it from there. Our staff, students, and their family members really enjoyed the evening. We were fortunate to have great weather. There were many fun activities, the ball game was exciting and the evening was topped off with fireworks. We hope to have the opportunity to participate again in 2013," said Hempfield High School Principal Will Stout.

Fourteen such school spirit nights were scheduled, tailored to the specific wishes of the districts. Performers from the schools have greeted fans at the gates and have sung and danced on the field. Honorees have thrown out first pitches and there have been video tributes to special staff members. School colors have been worn en masse. Each night has been its own individual celebration.

"Our front office staff has worked really hard to put together a great season with something for everyone. The school spirit nights are just one example," said General Manager Kristen Simon. "But it also takes the support of this great community to make these efforts worthwhile."

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their eighth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
