Barnstormers Era Off With A Bang

Lancaster Stormers News Release

Ryan Minor launched the Barnstormers into their inaugural season with a leadoff home run in the second inning, sending the Barnstormers on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Somerset Patriots in the season opener.

Minor's homer ignited an 11-hit attack. The Barnstormers first baseman, along with Travis Hake, Quincy Foster and Lance Burkhart collected two hits apiece in the victory. Minor and Hake each drove in a pair of runs.

The offense was plenty to support a stingy pitching effort turned in by a quartet of Lancaster hurlers. Brent Hoard notched the win, throwing five strong innings in his first start in nearly two years.

The left-hander from California, who had not pitched a regular season game since June, 2003, due to injuries, carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He was touched at that point with doubles by Todd Betts and Ryan Radmanovich around a single by Mamon Tucker.

Hoard escaped the fifth with no additional damage before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Somerset managed only one additional hit, a bunt single in the eighth inning against relievers Domingo Acosta, Troy Mattes and Cliff Smith.

NOTES: RHP Scott Patterson will work the second game of the series on Friday night. He will be opposed by RHP Scott Sobkowiak. The game may be heard on SportsJuice.com beginning at 7:00.
