Barnstormers Dansby, Glas earn All-af2 honors

DES MOINES - The 2009 Midwest Division Champion Iowa Barnstormers are proud to announce that Offensive Lineman Michael Dansby and Kicker Jeff Glas have been named to the All-af2 first team. In addition, Defensive Back Tanner Varner and Wide Receiver Tim Dodge were selected to the All-af2 second team. Dodge was also named to the second team for his efforts on Special Teams. The results were announced Wednesday afternoon at the af2 league office in Chicago, IL after a nationwide vote of media and af2 coaches. In all 19 of the league's 25 teams had at least one representative on either the first or second team.

Dansby has been a rock at Offensive Tackle and Tight End for the Barnstormers for the past two seasons. The 6'4" 312 lb lineman has started every single game for Iowa since the beginning of the 2008 season and was part of a unit that recently went 10 games without giving up a sack. Dansby is a three-year veteran of af2, following a four-year standout career at Jackson State University.

Kicker Jeff Glas has had a dream season for the Barnstormers in 2009. The three-year veteran from North Dakota set the all-time af2 single season scoring record for points by a kicker with 166. His 21 field goals were a league-high and he made a remarkable 10 field goals of over 40 yards, incuding a career and af2 season-high 57 yard kick against Tulsa on April 4.

Defensive back Tanner Varner had another excellent season for Iowa in 2009. The third year af2 veteran from Northern Iowa started 15 games for the Barnstormers, leading the league in tackles with 119.5. Varner also led the team in interceptions with 8 and pass break-ups with 19. He also forced two fumbles, had three fumble recoveries and returned two of his interceptions for touchdowns.

Wide Receiver Tim Dodge is no stranger to All-af2 honors. The six-year veteran from the University of Iowa is a former two-time af2 ironman of the year. Dodge has been named to the all-af2 second team not only as a Wide Receiver, but also for his play on Special Teams. He finished the season with 105 receptions for 1175 yards and 20 touchdowns. Dodge also was the Barnstormers primary kick returner, finishing the season with 2,781 all-purpose yards and a new team record 8 kick returns for touchdowns.
