Lancaster Stormers News Release

Not even the loss of shortstop Jason Bowers to the Baltimore Orioles organization slowed down the Lancaster Barnstormers Tuesday night, as the home club rolled to a 10-4 victory over the Long Island Ducks in the opener of a three-game series.

The win, the Barnstormers sixth straight, improved the team?s overall record to 22-10 on the season. Lancaster stayed 2 ? games in front of Atlantic City, which won, 4-1, over Camden.

Reggie Taylor, Quincy Foster and Lance Burkhart all belted two-run homers as Lancaster reached double figures for the fourth time in five games. Taylor connected in the first after a Travis Hake double for a quick 2-0 lead off Damian Moss (0-4). Foster took Moss out of the yard to right field in the second, three batters after Steve Van Note beat out a bunt single. Burkhart produced a 7-2 lead with his blast in the fifth inning.

Scott Sobkowiak (5-1) survived a pair of solo homers. Dominick Ambrosini hammered his third of the season in the second inning, and Erick Almonte slammed a long blast to left leading off the fourth to cut the Lancaster lead to 4-2. The tying runs were on base, but Kris Dufner, Bowers? replacement, started a 6-4-3 double play to get the right-hander out of the inning.

Lancaster would turn two more double plays on the night, keeping the Ducks from building any type of rally. RBI singles by Jose Ortiz and Burkhart and a bases loaded walk to Chris Van Rossum in the sixth put the game out of reach.

Long Island did manage an unearned run off Eric Ackerman in the seventh. Dominick Ambrosini?s leadoff grounder was fumbled by Van Note at first base. Mel Stocker walked with one out, and Kevin Haverbusch singled into center with two outs to produce the run.

Tony Schrager homered with one out in the ninth off Charlie Weatherby to cap the scoring.
