Barnstormers bust out, whip Road Warriors

Lancaster Stormers News Release
The lion got out of its cage and went on a rampage.
After nine consecutive losses, the Lancaster Barnstormers took out their frustrations on the visiting Road Warriors, ripping them apart for a 15-0 victory in front of 4,010 Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
While the offensive outburst was overdue for a team which had not scored more than four runs in a game during the losing streak, it was the effort turned in by Cam Smith that might have the lasting ramifications for a club looking for starting pitching heading into the post-season.
Smith (5-5) allowed only two hits, both singles, in six innings. He walked three and hit two but struck out ten, a season high for the Barnstormers. It was the second straight quality start for the 32-year old right-hander who has posted a 1.67 ERA in the second half of the season.
His Barnstormer teammates made winning relatively easy, busting loose for eight runs in the first inning. Reggie Taylor doubled inside the first base bag and advanced to third on Jutt Hileman?s bouncing single to center. Jeremy Todd ripped a long single off the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead. Jose Ortiz knocked a single off the leg of starter Chris Eickhorst (1-12) to produce Hileman with the second run. A single by Chris Van Rossum loaded the bases. Eickhorst uncorked a wild pitch with Keith Maxwell at the plate for the third run. Maxwell then doubled off the left field wall to drive in two more. Manny Santana delivered the knockout blow to Eickhorst with a single off the right field wall. He was thrown out at second for the first out of the inning.
Reliever Miguel Martinez issued a two-out walk to Kris Dufner, and Taylor, in his second at bat of the inning, crushed a homer over the picnic tents in right for the 8-0 lead.
Ortiz led off the second with a blast down the left field line, his 12th of the year. Santana added a second RBI single in the fourth for a 10-0 lead.
The Barnstormers finished their explosion in the fifth an RBI single by Ortiz and consecutive homers by Van Rossum and Maxwell.
Then, there were more explosions of the temper variety. Following the back-to-back homers in the fifth, reliever Julio Guerrero drilled Santana with a fastball, prompting Guerrero?s ejection. Benches emptied, but only words, not blows were exchanged.
Then, in the top of the sixth, Smith clocked Manny Mejia with a fastball, and the benches emptied again, this time leading to a brief skirmish and plenty of pushing and shoving. No further ejections were issued, and the game coasted home from there.
NOTES: The 10 strikeouts fell one short of the franchise record, set by Joe Dawley in 2005?The 15 strikeouts by the staff established a new mark for the club?Maxwell had not had an extra-base hit since August 12?Derek Barrows extended a hitting streak to 13 games with a single off Chris Clem in the seventh? The 15 runs, 18 hits, four homers and 33 total bases all tied season highs?John Boker (0-0) is scheduled to start Friday night against knuckleballer Joe Gannon?Game time is 7:05.
