Orange County Flyers News Release
FULLERTON, Calif. (June 25, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers offense started slow against Chico's Demetrius Banks, who threw a no-hitter through five innings, en route to a 3-1 loss at Goodwin Field on Friday night in 2:20, the Flyers' shortest 9-inning game of the year.. The Flyers fell to 12-16 while Chico improved to a league-best 23-7.
Banks walked the leadoff man in the first inning before retiring the next 16 straight batters during which time the Outlaws notched three runs through the first five innings.
Flyers starting pitcher Kevin Altman broke up the no-hitter with a single in the sixth inning. After a Derek Perren double, Jimmy Rohan singled home Altman for the Flyers lone run of the game. Altman (1-1), making his first start of the year for Orange County, threw seven strong innings, giving up just three runs while scattering eight hits and striking out six in a losing effort.
Banks (4-1) earned the win giving up one run on four hits over seven innings. Justin Segal pitched a scoreless eighth for Chico, and Matt Pershio earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Flyers got strong relief from Bryan Harris and Andre Simpson, who combined to shut out the Outlaws over the final two innings, but the offense didn't come through late in the game.
Orange County and Chico will conclude this three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm, and all former and current members of the military will be admitted free as it's "Armed Forces Family Night" at the ballpark. Saturday is also hat night with the first 500 fans receiving a replica Flyers cap.
