Bandits Beat Kernels 8-4

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits beat the Kernels 8-4 on Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Kernels pitchers walked eight Bandits, and the Kernels scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning.

Quad Cities tallied a pair of runs in the first inning as the Bandits recorded three straight singles to take a 2-0 advantage. Carlos Correa and Jesse Wierzbicki singled to put men at the corners. Correa scored on a RBI single by Rio Ruiz while Wierzbicki came home on a throwing error by Travis Harrison.

The Kernels took a 4-2 lead in the third inning. With the bases loaded, a J.D. Williams RBI single plated Tyler Grimes to get the Kernels on the board. Jorge Polanco then followed by lacing a bases-clearing RBI triple to deep center. His eighth triple of the season plated Michael Quesada, Candido Pimentel, and Williams to give the Kernels the lead.

The River Bandits cut the Kernels lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning when Wierzbicki's RBI single brought home Teoscar Hernandez.

Quad Cities took a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning with a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle by Jobduan Morales. The hit to center scored Correa and Wierzbicki. Correa walked to begin the inning while Wierzbikci followed by reaching on a fielding error by Harrison.

Wierzbicki put the game out of reach in the eighth inning with a three-run home run to deep left field, putting Quad Cities up 8-4.

Hein Robb battled through a tough first inning and went 4.1 innings for the Kernels. He allowed three runs (two earned) on only three hits while striking out five and walking four. Caleb Brewer (0-1) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Josue Montanez allowed three runs over two innings.

Lance McCullers started for the River Bandits and allowed four runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out six and walked two. Daniel Minor (4-1) picked up the win in relief, going 3.1 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits while striking out four and walking one. John Neely picked up the save, going 1.2 innings.
