Bakersfield Too Much for Sioux Falls at 2013 NBA D-League Showcase
January 7, 2013 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
RENO, NEV., Jan. 7, 2013 - The Bakersfield Jam took a commanding lead in the first quarter and never looked back in route to a 103-88 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase in a battle of 10-6 teams.
The main ingredients to this Jam team include three players that have flirted with NBA careers in the past and are looking to not only find their way back to the NBA, but are looking to stay there. When you dive into the careers of players like Renaldo Major, Damion Jones and Jerel McNeal it would not come of a surprise that these players, all playing on the same squad would allow an opportunity like the NBA D-League Showcase to go to waste.
Major is no stranger to the NBA D-League Showcase. The veteran has bounced around in search of his place since he graduated Fresno State in 2004. This is now his second season as a member of the Bakersfield Jam and he has been a model of consistency in his time on the squad. Monday's game was no exception, as Major scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
James, a 6-foot-7 forward from the University of Texas, was originally selected by the Atlanta Hawks, 24th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft. He's overcome some obstacles of his own, the most recent being season-ending foot surgery that limited his stint with the New Jersey Nets last year to just seven games. James showcased a complete all-around effort with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Finally, McNeal a 6-foot-3 guard who was in training camp with the Toronto Raptors during the preseason, compiled 18 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor.
Shan Foster showed off his shooting ability, coming off the bench to score 18 points, including connecting on 4-of-8 attempts from behind the arc. He was originally drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2008 NBA Draft and was Bakersfield's first round selection in this year's NBA D-League Draft after playing the last three seasons overseas.
For Sioux Falls, Demetris Nichols scored a game-high 22 points and Miami Heat assignee, Dexter Pittman recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Bakersfield and Sioux Falls are both off tomorrow and will return to action on Wednesday.
