Bakersfield Outlasts Tulsa 118-113

BAKERSFIELD, March 16, 2014 - Jerel McNeal scored a game-high 32 points and the Bakersfield Jam (16-24) began a three-game road trip with a 118-113 victory over the Tulsa 66ers (20-24) on Sunday afternoon.

The first half had a total of 17 lead changes and six ties as both teams went back-and-forth throughout the first 24 minutes of action. Holding a slight advantage at the break (57-55), Tulsa extended their lead to as many as 13 points in the third but Bakersfield managed to end the quarter strong to come within five points (92-87) after three.

The final frame was the main difference in the game as the Jam outscored the 66ers 31-21 and shot 51 percent from the field while holding Tulsa to just 41 percent. In addition, a key difference in the fourth period was free-throws as Bakersfield made 15-of-17 free throw attempts, compared to just 3-of-4 for Tulsa.

The Jam slightly held the edge in field goal percentage (48.7-48.3), rebounds (40-39), second chance points (13-12) and fast break points (22-19), while Tulsa had more assists (22-14) and points in the paint (54-46).

Jeremy Wise and Marketih Cummings each tallied 15 points off the bench for the Jam. Ike Diogu (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Dennis Horner (14 points, 10 rebounds) each posted a double-double while Derrick Byars contributed 11 points and four assists.

Tulsa was led by Isaiah Wilkerson (22 points) and Mario Little (21 points, 5 assists). Reggie Williams, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, had 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Bakersfield will next travel to Texas for a game against the Legends on Wednesday, March 19 at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
