Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., March 16, 2014 - Six Tulsa players scored 12 or more points, but the Tulsa 66ers fell to the Bakersfield Jam, 118-113, on Sunday afternoon at the SpiritBank Event Center.
Isaiah Wilkerson led Tulsa in scoring with 22 points off the bench while Mario Little totaled 21 points and five assists. Reggie Williams posted 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Dominic McGuire tallied 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Ron Anderson collected 16 points and eight boards.
In a game that featured 22 lead changes, Tulsa (20-24) found itself down 27-26 after one quarter of play. The 66ers worked their way back and took the lead early in the second but a Bakersfield (16-24) run put the Jam up by two with just over a minute left in the quarter. After a fast-break layup by Scoop Jardine and a forced Jam turnover, Tulsa would end the half ahead by two courtesy of a buzzer-beating fadeaway by Williams.
The 66ers came out of the halftime break scoring the first seven points of the third quarter and eventually built up a 13-point lead with four minutes remaining in the frame. Bakersfield closed the gap in the quarter's final minutes to narrow Tulsa's lead to 92-87 heading into the fourth.
The Jam used an 8-2 run in the heart of the final quarter to take a 106-104 lead with 4:24 remaining. The 66ers retook the lead and went back and forth with Bakersfield before the Jam scored six consecutive points to go ahead 114-110 before holding on in the final minutes.
"Bakersfield used a full-court press in the second half that we failed to take advantage of," said 66ers Head Coach Darko Rajakovic. "We were also a little too active with our hands on defense late in the game, which led to a lot of free throw opportunities for Bakersfield. We'll continue to keep our focus, take everything day by day and work to improve as a team."
Bakersfield was led by Jerel McNeal with 32 points, three rebounds and three assists.
After playing three games in four days, the 66ers are back in action on Thursday when they host the Texas Legends at 7 p.m. For ticket information, visit Tulsa66ers.com.
